Thriving Together: The Branch Has Expanded Our Older Adult Care Program

As the years go by, communities continue to evolve. In 2023, The Branch’s Older Adult Care Program has taken a giant leap forward by expanding our services to include a wide range of community activities in addition to its existing food delivery program. This innovative approach aims to foster social engagement, promote health and wellness, and ensure that Nashville’s seniors can live fulfilling lives.

Recognizing the importance of holistic care for older adults, our program has made an effort to offer a diverse array of community activities. By partnering with Belmont University, the program has brought easy exercise and fall prevention classes within reach for seniors in need. These classes not only improve physical fitness but also help reduce the risk of falls, a common concern among older adults. We have also partnered with Belmont to offer music classes! Engaging in music not only stimulates the mind but also brings joy and a sense of community. Seniors can explore their musical talents, learn new instruments, or simply enjoy singing along in a supportive environment.

Additionally, Tennessee State University has joined forces with us to provide nutrition classes. These educational sessions enable seniors to make informed dietary choices, empowering them to lead healthier lives. From learning about balanced meal planning to understand the impact of various nutrients, our senior friends gain valuable knowledge to enhance their overall health and vitality.

Understanding that transportation can be a significant barrier to participation for older adults, we utilize the Branch’s van to bridge this gap. Seniors residing at Hickory Towers, a local residential facility, can now rely on the program’s transportation services to travel conveniently to and from the Branch. This ensures that no senior is left behind, allowing them to actively engage in the community activities offered.

As we continue to learn and grow, let us remember that building a thriving community starts with ensuring that every member, regardless of age, has the opportunity to flourish.
